Description

Visually graded vinyl looks STRONG VG+

(close to "excellent") on side one and almost as nice

on side two, but B1 (Somethin Else) has lightly felt

scratch between midway point and the 3/4 portion

of the song & starts to be lightly audible as the sax

and trumpet dueling gets going, and is more obvious

during the piano solo, and lasts a dozen revolutions

and fades away halfway through the solo.

Labels are super-clean with no stains.

Side one label has some "sharp" spindle marks,

the flip side has some "dull", harder to notice spindle marks.

Both have the Deep Groove.

Other than the previously mentioned issue, both sides

play with light, even surface hiss (more like "static")

that is never intrusive, and the highs are crisp and the bass is tight.

RVG is machine stamped, as is the off-center Plastylite

"P" aka the "ear" symbol. Most of the front lamination

still glossy and shiny. The spine and seams are intact.

The back has a price sticker. "Rice" is faintly written

on the back upper left corner, and HIGH FIDELITY

is underlined. All 3 corners have minor wear.

There's a half inch of abrasion on the top edge,

to the left of the center. The spine is totally intact and

the printing is centered. The bottom is intact except for

a half inch near the right corner where the

outer lamination is starting to peel away.

Recorded at: Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey

Publisher: Blue Horizon Music

Lacquer was cut at: Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey

Pressing plant: Plastylite

MOST of the Blue Note and Prestige records from this era

were pressed at the long defunct PLASTYLITE

vinyl record pressing plant that was located in North Plainfield,

New Jersey.

Records from Plastylite can be identified by a cursive "P"

stamped into the deadwax.

(The "P" stamp is also known to collectors as the "ear" mark.)
