Description

An original 1st issue of HOTH on the UK Atlantic label from spring 1973 - whilst the album charted. Matrix A2/B3. Stamped 'RL Sterling'. Please note the labels are absolutely consistent with 1st issue. All perimeter text stays within the southern sector - and there's no sign of the WB logo. Note that these early copies are very nice and heavy pressed unlike copies a matter of months later. Make sure you insist on a heavy copy! The vinyl comes housed in an original matt gatefold with the original textured inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In superb condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a few very superficial marks per side, and one tiny semi-feelable mark in 'Ocean'..see details below. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. There's some great audio rolling off of this copy - it is extremely well preserved. Intros and inbetweens are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. And this is of the utmost importance on HOTH as there are two or three very low-key tracks which will test whether your copy plays properly clean. And they are RAIN & NO QTR..and I'm pleased to report that this copy performs to a high level in these tracks. You might detect a few isolated crackles occasionally in NO QTR but by and large this copy plays a good bit better than most examples out there. The only slightest deviation is in 'Ocean' - I picked out a couple of minor ticks midway through. This is quite a loud track and, thankfully, there're not that noticeable really. But don't go thinking every other copy will deliver this sort of clarity and quiet background. In my experience - not many play back this well.
Cover (Ex) Difficult to find one that has steered clear of the usual surface wear. This example is much better than you typically find. Both front and back are almost entirely free from surface wear - which is very unusual. The surfaces are very nice and flat with barely a crease. The interior is immaculate - no issues. Edge wear is very very light or this title - it has clearly been carefully looked after. The only vague criticism I can throw at it is that the opening edges don't quite match up. This will have occurred during the manufacturing/gluing process [just a couple of millimetres - no big deal really].The opening edges are still nice and sharp. The spine is in excellent order and overall the cover retains tremendous rigidity. Overall a really superb looking copy that would be, in reality, hard to better.
Inner (Ex) Typically found with ageing or foxing. This copy is looking very fine indeed. Has entirely avoided the ageing process - which is very very unusual. No splits!
