Description

An original 2nd issue of Zep II on the UK Atlantic label from the second half of 1970. Matrix A5/B4. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover. If you need to hear Zep II to like it was really intended with the super-heavy guitar sound..you need to bag a clean playing red & plum...THIS is the way it should sound. Also included is the original 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeve from the early 70's. So,100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In superb condition and you can only wish that all copies from '70 would surface looking this clean. Under close inspection I can only make out a few light marks per side - nothing heavy or troublesome looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with three deviations. As I was mentioning above, if you haven't heard Zep II on a clean early red&plum copy, you haven't heard Zep2  -  ! These copies basically nailed the sound - perfectly. Thunderous weight in the guitar, but with a lovely quiet background which allows you to pick up on the low-level guitar work and vocal echoes. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Even the tricky tracks like 'Thank You' & 'Bring It On Home' play reassuringly clean. Any interference is very minor in nature and infrequent. And when on song it plays as good as any copy I can remember - barring just a couple of brief issues. I picked up two ticks in the intro to Ramble and a couple more in the final two seconds of the track as the audio has faded out [barely worth mentioning]. Then there's a couple of ticks in the mid-section of 'Killing Floor' - no big deal. There's also 3-4 clicks at the start of the drum solo in Moby Dick [I'm not big on drum solos so it could be in a worse spot]. I'm more interested in the overall clean nature of the audio so that it can handle 'Thank You' & 'Bring It On Home'. It certainly aces it in all the right places providing you can just live with a couple of minor and short lived indiscretions.
Cover (Vg) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl, but these early ZepII covers are a real pain to find looking perfect. Relatively clean and unaged front with only light handling. As you tend to find on the rear..there's a bit more surface wear - but nothing excessive. Please note there's a name stamped on the cover down at the foot. The interior is superb with no issues. There's a bit of edge wear, but again, it's not excessive. The spine is above average with the text still just about legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Sweet!
Inner (Vg+) No splits, but a couple of age spots here and  there.
