Description
Here is a beautiful copy of Paul McCartney's Promo Only 12" "Brung to ewe by" LP from 1971. Paul put this together to help promote his "Ram" LP which would be released in May of 1971. These promos were recorded specifically for radio stations only.
Although not on a specified label this promo LP was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and has a record number of SPRO-6210, which is typical of other Capitol promo LP's.
This promo consists of fifteen 30-second and 60-second radio spots. Here are their titles:
Side One:
On A Fishing Boat
You Know What I Mean
Ram Ram...Boogie
Rama Rama...
We've Got To Get This Album Together Man
Snatch Of 'Uncle Albert
Snatch Of 'Ram On
'Ram' With Sounds Of Sheep
'Ram On' And Sheep Noises
On A Fishing Boat
Ram Ram
What Is This, Paul: This Is Work Woman
Paul Rambling In Scottish Accent
Very Short Clips Of Tracks
Please Don't Bring My Banjo Back
* These are all mostly sounds NOT heard on the actual Ram LP!
Side Two consists of a blank play groove.
One source states that only 500 of these LP's were ever pressed!
As with any rare or unusual collectible, counterfeits were made. One test to see if a copy of this LP is real and original is that genuine copies have a 1 1/2" pressing ring around the spindle hole. This copy has that 1 1/2" ring. Counterfeits have larger rings. Another test is if a copy has a machine stamped asterisk (*) in the runout area. This copy has that asterisk. The asterisk is the LA Capitol factory symbol. Lastly, genuine copies have fairly even spacing between the cuts. Counterfeits do not have even spacing. This copy has even spacing.
The runout area also shows the following:
SPRO-6210 Z1. EW/N *
Originally, these radio promo discs came with two letters, one from Paul and Linda and another from Diane Brooks of McCartney Productions, Inc. I have only copies of these letters that I obtained from someone who had originals. The copies are included here. They are brief and are just standard typed letters.
As far as condition, this copy is MINT! I played it once when I obtained it back in the 1980's and then put it away in a resealable LP cover to keep it clean. I just play tested it for the first time in some 30 years. The vinyl LOOKS Mint and it PLAYS Mint. The lead-in grooves are totally silent and the grooves between cuts are also totally silent! Nice stereo sound!
Some of these promos came in plain white cardboard sleeves with "Ram" logos and others came in just plain white cardboard jackets. This one came in a plain white cardboard jacket with a large hole in the middle so the label can be seen clearly.
There are probably other copies out there for sale, but if they were actually used by a radio station, they would not be in the condition of this one, which is Mint!
Shipping/ Handling will be $15.99 within the U.S. Buyer will have to show their own photo ID to take possession of this item.See my other records for sale this week on Ebay by clicking "Seller's other items."
