Discovers Hoagy Carmichael's Music Shop   (AJP)   (1970)

Record Grade: VG+ / VG   (two records that play with verying fidelity, but mostly pretty good. The worst playing tacks are "Clouds" & "Travelling". Check soundclip for actual audio)

Cover Grade: VG   (gatefold. seam splits an one side. light wear. small spine tears)

Wonderous exploratory jazz funk album combining fuzzed out and distorted vibraphone and a the fuzzed and smoked out leads of a young (Student?) John Abercrombie. Everything about this album makes it a diggers staple. It's an odd concept, it's funky as hell, the playing chops are there and the drums are tight and funky and upfront. There are a few originals, but it's hardly worth mentioning as the covers bear not even a passing resemblance to anything Hoagy Carmichael intended. It's been well over 10 years this album was really given grail status and the tracks on this alubm still manage to astonish me.
