Description

An original UK Mono from 1969 no less. Matrix 1N/2N [which was used from around '66 through to '69]. Gramophone text infers pressing date is later than '65. But there are a number of label traits, here, that single this copy out as a 1st half of '69 copy. Although it still exhibits the sold in the UK statement that would be dropped just a matter of months later... Note how the full tax code is absent.  Also, after numerous font variations they settle on an ultra-small font. Look how they manage to fit 'Northern Songs' for track 1 all on the top line bar the 'Ltd.' That, in fact, is very much in keeping with the layout you find on a Mono one-EMI box. Also tape number and side number are not indented [they are aligned]. This only occurs from '68. The vinyl comes housed in an original cover with the flipbacks exposed. Please note the cover is original to the same time period ['69]. But be aware the cover is actually STEREO. So there is a small mention of stereo top right on front. And the little stereo blurb top right on the rear. That's all. There's an Emitex inner to finish off the presentation. Remember that by '69 Mono records are getting very hard to come by. Even Beatle mono's no doubt! We have an Emi advertising inner from the time too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In super condition and has only seen light use. Excellent lustre. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of lightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. This is deep grooved mono and will not be troubled. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with just minor deviation in a couple of spots per side. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Lots of early 60's energy and precious little background. Perhaps just a couple of minor crackles in one isolated spot per side. But even the fussy acoustic numbers are playing really clean. So if you're after a top level performer....One that is close to perfect...well, you're looking right at it. Don't let this gem slip your grasp...You're more than welcome to look for another perfect mono player....but I can guarantee you nothing out there will beat this copy for audio. Perfect resolver. Perfect clean signal.
Cover (Ex-) Nice clean surfaces without much sign of wear or creasing. A couple of thumbnails....on what is otherwise an impeccable looking front. Four pointy corners. The rear looks great and has avoided much of the ageing process. One blemish and a small neat signature bottom right. Notice the pinched spine and that there's very little edge wear at all. Spine 97% intact. Flipacks look superb.  Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) No splits. Slight ageing.
