ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This outstanding and very rare LP from La Voz de su Amo / Spanish HMV (ASDL 777 – equivalent to ASD 297, early Spanish EMI pressing, cream/silver label – ED1, stereo) features conductor André Vandernoot and the Philharmonia Orchestra’s sumptuous and sultry accounts of Falla’s El amor bruja (with mezzo-soprano Oralia Dominguez), Chabrier’s España, and Ravel’s Raspodie Espagnole, brilliantly recorded in London circa 1960.

Although Vandernoot’s versions of El amor bruja and Rapsodie Espagnole probably never sold in anything like the numbers that Giulini’s versions on Columbia did, the Belgian maestro yields absolutely nothing to his more famous Italian colleague. This is exalted conducting, and orchestral playing, by any measure, with the Philharmonia on brillaint form.

Incidentally, there are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in Spanish only, by Noel Goodwin.

CONDITION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is FAIR. (Note: This is towards the lower end of my grading scale.) There is considerable edgewear, particularly along the spine and at corners, as well as creasing, a small tear to the spine, ringwear, and discoloration to the rear panel. On the plus side, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid and presentation worthy – overall, still a decent copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a very fine copy and the playback is superb. Those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
