Description
Stark Reality Hoagy Carmichael’s Music Shop Psych Funk “The Stark Reality Discovers Hoagy Carmichael’s Music Shop,” released in 1970 as the music for the WGBH/21”Classroom television series.
This funky psych-rock work was originally issued in on AJP Records as a children's record. It has since become a highly sought after and coveted jazz funk/rock fusion item among record collectors. Musicians include Monty Stark on vibes/voice, John Abercrombie on guitar, Phil Morrison on bass and Vinnie Johnson on drums.
Condition: All sides of this set have notable scratches/scuffs. Discs play, but with surface noise throughout. Side 1 had a very notable scratch which I tried to capture that part of the disc in the image below. I doubted would play through. Surprisingly it did, but with one skip toward the end of the track. Since it was the roughest portion of the record, I have included that portion as the audio clip below as well (possibly good for sampling or simply listening). Recording was made using my classic Pickering cartridge with the stock stylus and brush (My other cartridges didn't play it well, apparently too light weight). I'm grading the disc as poor simply based on its visual appearance of side 1. Some may grade it higher, but I prefer to grade it strictly. The other three sides play better, though surface noise is still present. A professional style record cleaner (like VPI) may improve that considerably. The gatefold cover is in very good condition, minor corner wear and a small split on the spine. No writing or stains and has a red and white promotional sticker on the lower left corner. This item is being sold as-is with no reserve price.
